Paul Anka has had an eventful life both on and off the stage. The Canadian singer, actor, and songwriter became a teen heartthrob at the age of 16.
Born July 30, 1941, in Ottawa into a tight-knit Canadian family, Paul Anka didn't waste much time getting his life in music started. He began singing in the Church choir and studied piano. Since his rise to fame in the '50s, he has worked with Tom Jones, Frank Sinatra, and Michael Jackson, just to name a few.
His Rise to Fame
When Diana was released, it went No. 1 in the world within weeks. Diana was a song he wrote about a girl that he had a crush on back in Ottawa. He was only 16 at the time and was propelled into instant stardom. Diana went on to sell over 20 million copies worldwide.
Since then, Paul Anka was officially a teen idol status.
By his early 20's he was already touring the world with a hit, Lonely Boy, and a song that's been popularized again from its remix on TikTok, Put Your Head On My Shoulders.
He's been quoted as saying, "My life as a teenager ended at 16," and that, "I went into another sphere."
He's been swooning crowds ever since with his beautiful voice and talented songwriting skills.
