World Teachers' Day is held every year on October 5th.
Worlds Teachers' Day is held yearly to commemorate the anniversary of the ILO/UNESCO recommendations concerning the Status of Teachers, created in 1996.
The recommendations set standards regarding the rights and responsibilities of teachers. They also included their initial preparation and further education standards, recruitment, employment, and teaching and learning conditions.
World Teachers' Day is in partnership with UNICEF, the International Labour Organization, and Education International.
Why Celebrate Teachers?
Each year, to celebrate World Teachers' Day, UNESCO and Education Internationals create a campaign to give the world a better understanding of teachers and the critical role they play in the development of students and society.
We've all seen firsthand the importance of teachers. Especially during the COVID-19 pandemic when many of us had to take on the role of teacher.
They come out with different themes for each World Teachers' Day every year.
Some of the past themes have been:
2016: Valuing Teachers, Improving their Status
2017: Empowering Teachers
2018: The right to education means the right to a qualified teacher
2019: Young Teachers: The Future of the Profession
2020: Teachers: Leading in crisis, reimagining the future
‘Teachers at the heart of Education recovery’ for World Teachers Day 2021.
More than 100 countries worldwide participate in Worlds Teachers' Day. Everyone can celebrate teachers by creating awareness about teachers and the issues they may face or giving respect and thanks to all the teachers you may know.
Many schools even prepare celebrations for their teachers during World Teachers' Day.
