Most Frequently Asked Questions

How long does it take to finalize a video?

We work towards finalizing your video as quickly as possible but can only guarantee that it will be ready within 24 hours from the time you pay and publish. This applies to weekdays and weekends.

Can I add late submissions to my video while it's publishing?

Yes, you can reopen the Event Page and add more media. Please note that your video is currently in our production queue, and by reopening the event it will interrupt the production of your video.

As the creator, when you reopen the Event Page you can add more media, continue to arrange your media, and republish your video which will restart the production of your video.

You’ll be prompted to pay again to republish your video and a 70% discount is automatically applied. We work towards finalizing your video as quickly as possible but can only guarantee that it will be ready within 24 hours from when you republish.

Can I add text or music?

We have plenty of features that we’re excited to launch in the future, such as a music library and custom messages, but at the moment we can only use our standard licensed background song and we don’t offer customized messages.

We use a carefully selected licensed instrumental song that perfectly compliments video messages while keeping the focus on the video messages.

Each photo is featured for roughly 3 seconds, and we extend photos with text to 6 seconds. For this reason, we suggest avoiding photos with long written messages that can’t be comfortably read in under 6 seconds.

Watch this video example to listen to the background music and see the intro message.

How will I know if a contributor submitted a video?

As the creator of the video, you’ll be able to see and preview submissions from contributors.

You’ll also receive an email notification every time there is a new submission.

If you do not want to receive these email notifications, you can change this in your Account Settings. Navigate to My Account and look under the Notifications tab. From there, deselect the Activity on Your VidDay and you no longer receive emails notifying you of submissions.

QUESTIONS FROM CONTRIBUTORS

Uploading Media

How do I know if my video or photo has been submitted?

Once your video has been uploaded, you’ll see a green message “Thanks, your submission has been added.”

We ask for your name and email to get notified if the creator decides to share the final video with contributors. Contributors will also receive an upload confirmation email if they have entered their information.

Is there a maximum time limit for my video submission?

There is no time limit for your video, but max file size that can be uploaded is 450 MB. We recommend keeping video clips under 2 minutes to maintain a nice flow in the final video.

Please note that videos that are larger than 2 minutes can quickly become large files. Be ready to wait longer than usual when uploading large files.

QUESTIONS FROM CREATORS

Getting Started

How does the process work?

You start a video by answering a few questions:

Who is the video for?

What is the occasion?

When do you need all video and photo submissions?

This creates a private Event Page that will be used to collect media.

Next, you can add videos and photos to the Event Page and share the Event Page link with other people so that they can submit their videos and photos.

Once all submissions are in, click the ‘Publish & Pay’ button, and VidDay makes a beautiful video for you. Keep in mind, due to higher demand it can take up to 24 hours to finalize your video.

When your video is ready, you’ll be notified by email and the final video will appear on the Event Page. From there, you can share it online and download it as a keepsake.

What key features should I know about?

By starting a new video, you've created an Event Page to add and manage media. You're the creator of the video, which means you, and only you can preview and edit submitted media.

If you can’t see submissions, it may mean you’re not logged in to your VidDay account.

All other people who visit the Event Page can not see submissions. What they see is a simplified version of the page with contextual information, the submission deadline, and a button to upload their media.

To invite people to contribute their videos and photos, simply share the Event Page link.

As the creator, you have the ability to arrange media in the order of appearance for the final video. Simply tap and hold thumbnails to drag them around.

We suggest that you crop and rotate photos to make them look 'just right.' For the best results, use our crop tool to remove blank areas on photos.

Can I preview, edit, or delete the submitted media?

You can preview all video and photo submissions. You also have the option to delete media if you need to. Currently, only photos can be edited with our crop and rotate tool.

Can I arrange the order of the videos and photos?

Yes, tap and hold thumbnails to drag and drop them in the order of preference.

The order of the media on the Event Page will be the order of appearance in the final video. The order starts from the top to bottom, which means the first media on the Event Page will be the first media to appear in the final video.

What will the final video look like?

We use a special theme to make the final video look beautiful and custom. Have a look here for examples.

How are the photo background scenes made?

The backgrounds are automatically composed of thumbnails from the video and photo submissions.

Can I use a different theme?

We realize that the photo collage theme that we use isn’t ideal for every situation. This is why we have a secondary theme—a simplified theme with a black background.

Watch this example of our simple theme.

If you want to move forward with this theme, please request our simple theme through our live chat.

Can I add text or music?

We can only use our standard licensed background song and we don’t offer customized messages.

Watch this example to listen to the background music and see the intro message.

Inviting Others

I can invite other people?

VidDay can be a collaborative video project. You can invite friends, family, and colleagues to submit video messages and photos to make the surprise video that much more special.

How do I invite people to submit their videos and photos?

To invite other people to contribute their videos and photos, simply share the link (a.k.a. URL) of the Event Page. You can share the Event Page link by email, text message, Messenger, WhatsApp or however which way works best for you.

A pre-written message is ready for you when you invite people by text message, WhatsApp, or email. This message includes who the video is for, the occasion, the deadline for submissions, along with the event link to visit the Event Page where they can submit their media.

You have full control to edit or delete this message in order to write your own invite message.

Can I edit the submission deadline?

You can edit the event details from the Event Page. Look for the “Edit Event Details” button under the deadline.

Please note that contributors can continue to submit their videos and photos after the submission deadline has passed. The Event Page is only closed to submissions once you hit the 'Publish' button to finalize the video.

Is there a maximum amount of media that I can add, or people that I can invite?

There is no maximum. We encourage you to add lots of videos and photos and invite as many people as you’d like. The more the better!

Each video and photo will be featured. Photos are featured for roughly 3 seconds each.

Will everyone see the submitted media?

Only the creator will be able to see and manage submitted media.

The cover photo is the only media that is public-facing as it’s used to invite contributors to submit their videos and photos.

How will I know if a contributor submitted a video?

As the creator of the video, you’ll be able to see and review submissions from contributors.

Publishing

What’s publishing?

Publishing is the action you take to finalize the video in order to share it as a gift with the recipient. When all your media has been added, you hit the ‘Publish & Pay’ button to get your video finalized.

Can I see a view of the final video before paying?

Due to high demand, we ask our customers to publish and pay to secure a space in our production queue. Once you publish, you can write to us to support@vidday.com or use our live chat support and ask to expedite your video. We will work on sending your video sooner to allow you to review your video and let us know if there are any issues.

We have a ‘satisfaction guaranteed or your money back’ policy to help offset the fact there are no previews before paying.

Watch this example of a final video.

What should I know before publishing a video?

Due to high demand, our turnaround time for finalizing videos can be up to 24 hours. We work towards finalizing your video as quickly as possible but can only guarantee that it will be ready within 24 hours.

Make sure that the video clips and photos are in order. Arrange media in sequence, starting from top-left to bottom-right. That will be the order of appearance in the final video.

Check all the video clips to make sure they have audio. If there are video clips without audio, please reach out to the contributor and ask them to resubmit their clip, or proceed as is.

We suggest you crop photos the way you want them to appear in the final video. Photos will appear in the final videos as they appear on the Event Page. For best results, we suggest cropping out blank areas.

Wait until everyone has submitted. You will have to reopen the Event Page to add or edit media while your video is finalizing or published. By reopening the event, you will lose access to the video until the new video is published.

There is a 70% discount applied for republishing a video.

Can I add late submissions while the video is publishing?

Yes, you can reopen the Event Page and add more media. Please note that your video is currently in our production queue, and by reopening the event it will interrupt the production of your video.

When you reopen the Event Page you can add more media, continue to arrange your media, and republish your video which will restart the production of your video.

You’ll be prompted to pay again to republish your video and a 70% discount is automatically applied. We work towards finalizing your video as quickly as possible but can only guarantee that it will be ready within 24 hours from when you republish.

Is there a way to finalize the video quicker than within 24 hours?

Due to high demand, our turnaround time for finalizing videos can be up to 24 hours. We work towards finalizing your video as quickly as possible but can only guarantee that it will be ready within 24 hours. This applies to weekdays and weekends.

If you need your video sooner rather than later, ask us through our live chat or by email at support@vidday.com to promote your video to the top of the production queue to expedite the process.

Can I add more media after my video is published?

Yes, but you will need to reopen the Event Page to add more media. There are two ways that you can reopen the Event Page.

From your Dashboard, select the menu button on your Event Page card (the three dots icon) and select the reopen action. Or, on the Event Page that is hosting the final video, click the “Reopen Event” button found at the bottom of the page.

When the Event Page is reopened, you will lose the current video and you will see the individual photos and videos again. From there, you can go ahead and add or delete media.

We suggest you download a copy of the current final video before reopening the Event Page as you will lose the current video.

You will need to pay again to publish a new version of the video, and a 70% discount is automatically applied. We work towards finalizing your video as quickly as possible but can only guarantee that it will be ready within 24 hours from when you republish.

Payment

How much does a VidDay video cost?

The process is free to start which means that you can start a video and invite people to submit media without committing to payment.

Once you’re ready to publish your video, the cost will depend on the length of the final video.

Here’s the price breakdown:

0–9 minutes → $12 USD

10–19 minutes → $24 USD

20–29 minutes → $36 USD

30–39 minutes → $48 USD

40–49 minutes → $60 USD

50–59 minutes → $72 USD

Videos over 60 minutes will incur an additional $12 for every additional 10 minutes in length.

You may want to reopen the video to add more videos. If this is the case you will need to republish the video. You will need to pay again to republish your video, and there is a 70% discount applied. For example, a $12 video will cost $3.60 to republish.

When do I pay?

You only need to pay when you’re ready to finalize your video. Click the ‘Publish & Pay’ button to go to the payment page. Once payment is successful, your video will get queued into production for a member of the VidDay team to finalize.

Which payment types do you accept?

We accept payment by Visa, MasterCard, and American Express.

Sharing the Final Video

How will the final video be delivered to me?

The Event Page that you created and used to gather videos and photos is where the final video is hosted. From there, you can watch, manage, and share the video with the recipient and others.

Please be sure that you're logged in to your VidDay account to see the final video, or else the Event Page will look like it's closed for submissions. To make the video available for others to see, you'll need to change the privacy setting.

Is the final video private?

You have full control of the privacy of the VidDay video you created. Look for the privacy toggle below the video. This toggle controls whether the video is private or public.

When the video is set as private, only you (the one who created the video) will be able to watch the video. Share the "Private Link" if you want to keep the video private and only share the video with the recipient. The private link is a secondary link that no one else knows about, that can access a private webpage to view the final video. This webpage can only be directly accessed with the private link.

When the video is set as public, all those who have the Event Page link—the same link that they used to submit their videos and photos—will be able to watch the video. Your video can only be directly accessed using the public link. It's not uploaded to YouTube without your permission, and it can't be found through search engines.

How can I share the final video with the recipient?

There are many ways to share the final video online.

By default, the video is private. Share the "Private Link" to keep the video private, and only share with the recipient.

Unlock the privacy to 'public' to share the link with everyone. At the core, it's all about sharing the Event Page link. You can share the link in any way that works best for you. To make things easier, you can hit the icons to quickly share the link through email, text message, Facebook, Twitter, WhatsApp, and more.

Remember, the video needs to be ‘public’ for others to see the video.

Is there an easy way to share the final video with contributors?

Yes, start with unlocking the privacy of the video to 'public'. By doing so, an option to share with contributors will appear.

With the click of a button, you can notify the contributors who submitted their email address along with their submission. Hit the 'Notify Contributors' button, and VidDay will send them an email to let them know that the final video is ready to watch.

We bet that they're super excited to see the final video too!

You can also simply share the Event Page with other people. Whoever has the direct link of the Event Page, will be able to view the final video (so long as it's set to public).

Can I download the final video?

You can download the final video and keep it as a beautiful souvenir.

When you are logged in to your VidDay account, you'll see the download button underneath the final video on the right.

Please note that downloading is only available on desktop computers and laptops. For the most part, phones and tablets block the ability to download large files from internet browsers. For this reason, the download button is not visible on mobile and tablet devices.

Can I download the individual videos/photos that were submitted?

This may be a future feature, but at the moment you can only download the final video.

Troubleshooting for Creators

How can I find the video montage that I started?

The video montages you’ve started are found on your dashboard when logged in to your VidDay account.

My video clip won’t upload… what should I do?

Often uploading issues are caused by an interruption in the WiFi signal. Please retry while keeping the “uploading” window open until completed. If you keep experiencing issues, send us the video by email to support@vidday.com with the recipient’s full name in the subject line.

Why is the final video not playing in full?

Please check your Wi-Fi connection as the video may not be buffering correctly. You can try downloading the video on a laptop or desktop computer ahead of time to avoid the buffering issues.
